Sustainability

A maritime future for all

From port to planet: Building a sustainable legacy in shipping

At Dockendale, we believe in a holistic approach to sustainability as it connects the dots between the many economic, environmental, and social aspects of our responsibilities. Our perspective on sustainability is shaped by the global nature of our operations and considers the diverse impacts and activities related to our business. We care deeply for our people and the communities where we operate, recognising our duty not only to the waters we navigate but, more broadly, at the health of our planet. After all, a thriving planet benefits everyone and enables a prosperous maritime future for all.

Our commitment

Innovating for a greener future

A relentless commitment to innovation drives our journey towards a greener future for maritime. We firmly believe in pushing the boundaries of what's possible, leveraging technology and best practices that ensure our vessels are more energy efficient while actively reducing our environmental footprint. We are always at the forefront of the latest innovation and work closely with our customers to identify the right set of solutions that can deliver both cost and environmental benefits.

For us, sustainability is not a destination so much as it is an ongoing journey. Here are some examples of steps we have taken to reduce our environmental impact:

We have partnered with Green Marine, a Copenhagen-based shipping company, to provide integrated technical management services for methanol dual-fuel ships, establishing new standards in environmentally responsible shipping.

Our fleet is designed for energy efficiency, with many vessels equipped with 'Green Passports' and Ballast Water Treatment Systems. In 2019, Dockendale was awarded "E-Zero" status by the U.S. Coast Guard for meeting strict environmental requirements.

We have LED lights installed on most of our fleet, reducing CO2 emissions. Additionally, Reverse Osmosis (RO) water filtration systems are introduced to eliminate single-use plastic water bottles, a common method of water consumption for crew.

Our impact

Our inspiring women seafarers

In a traditionally male-dominated field, Dockendale is stepping up as a champion of gender diversity at sea. Today, women make up just 1.2% of seafarers worldwide, and while we recognise that change won’t happen overnight, we are committed to help bridge the gender gap on board our vessels by implementing policies and practices to meet that objective. We believe in equal employment opportunities and fostering a safe and inclusive working culture where every person is respected, supported, and encouraged to meet their fullest potential. Our inspiring women seafarers fearlessly navigate the open waters, break barriers, and prove that diversity is a key to a successful and sustainable maritime future.

Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.

Leading the green pathway for methanol

Setting out on a journey where sustainability serves as our compass, our partnership with Green Marine is a dedicated effort to revolutionise the commercial use of methanol-powered vessels. This partnership established the world’s first ship management company dedicated to methanol-powered vessels. With the industry forging ahead to meet decarbonisation targets and goals, cleaner marine fuels such as methanol are leading the charge as one of the most viable eco-friendly options. Through our joint venture with Green Marine, we will be the first third-party ship management service provider to offer integrated, technical management services for methanol-powered ships. Many of the world’s ship owners and operators are looking at methanol if they have not already started to invest in this pathway, and Dockendale will be there to assist them every step of the way.

Connecting with our communities through kindness

Our holistic view of sustainability means we care deeply about the communities in which we operate. Our colleagues in Mumbai regularly spend time at St. Catherine’s Home, an orphanage in the Andheri region of Mumbai, to volunteer their time and distribute clothes, technology supplies, and other gifts to the many children housed there. Beyond the simple act of gift giving, donating items like computers and printers makes an immediate impact on children at the orphanage, as such resources contribute to their education, personal development, and overall well-being. Our engagement with local communities is not just about acts of kindness but also fostering a shared sense of humanity.

End poverty in all its forms everywhere.
